Hybrid Battery Repair
When prius batterys fail you have several paths of repair.
- Take the vehicle to toyota and have a new battery fitted.
- Locate a second hand battery and have it fitted.
- Have the battery repaired (more on this later).
- Trade in the vehicle.
Usual Symptoms of battery failure are the big red warning triangle and engine fault lamp on the dash staring at you, the car does not want to accelerate and is slow and the electric cooling fan for the battery compartment runs continuously. These are the usual suspects but there are others.

Usual Symptoms of battery failure are the big red warning triangle and engine fault lamp on the dash staring at you, the car does not want to accelerate and is slow and the electric cooling fan for the battery compartment runs continuously. These are the usual suspects but there are others.
The battery is comprised of many individual modules (Panasonic prismatic modules) in the case of early 2005-2009 prius there are 28 each with a voltage of around nominal 7.2volts. It only needs one module to reach a failure threshhold and the battery will be condemned.
It is possible to to strip the battery and measure the voltage across the modules to find the weak unit and replace it with another. This does not work and you will end up doing the job again in short order, we have tried it. The problem is that more than one module can be involved and measuring the voltage across the unit is NOT the whole picture. Also the replacement module is of unknown origin and quality.
Montech Motors is now able to fully analyse the modules in the battery pack for voltage, discharge and charging capacity and discharge rate at an individual module level whilst in series. This allows us to grade the modules.
Montech Motors is now supplying reconditioned and guaranteed exchange HYBRID batteries for Toyota vehicles.
We will deliver in the perth area for a typical couriers fee.
The fact that a battery can be repaired/exchanged successfully helps prolong the financial viability of the vehicle.
